Andu in Barcelona, Spain: Wine, Tapas and a Cast of Characters

Andu in Barcelona, Spain: Wine, Tapas and a Cast of Characters

The last time I was at Andu, it was a friend’s birthday party. My friend is very creative, and decided to hold his party in not one, but 6 bars. He sent out an invitation, which also included a Google mapping of where all the different bars were. At 7pm the party began in El Raval, and every two hours he changed bars, bringing some guests with him, leaving others behind, and meeting still others at the next destination.

The party brought a whole new meaning to bar hopping, and while I’d like to say that I made it to all 6 bars, I didn’t. In fact, I only made it to one of the 6, Andu Bar in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. I met up with the birthday boy and his cast of friends at Andu because it is one of my preferred bars. I asked some of the other people at the party what they thought of Andu (none of them had been there before) and they all agreed that it’s great, using adjectives like, cozy, welcoming, interesting, charming….and that is how I have always felt about it too. But why?

Andu in Barcelona, Spain: Wine, Tapas and a Cast of Characters

What is it that Andu has? There are many bars like it in Barcelona, especially in the Gothic Quarter, with old furniture, couches, books on shelves, lots of Spanish wine, simple and delicious tapas, the concept is not new. However, there is an energy that this bar has that has made it one of the places I visit every month, with friends from all walks of life. It is never a dull time at Andu, you always end up meeting someone, or in my case, running into someone. The wine and beers are good quality and inexpensive, and the tapas are also very reasonable.

Address: Correo Viejo 3, Barcelona – near the old post office and the port. Lots of nice restaurants in this area too.
