Crete and the Minoan city of Knossos continues to be immortalized by stories told in Greek mythology, Zeus it is said,was indeed born in Crete, on Mount Ida. born unto Rhea, also known as the Earth mother.

Minos seeing an extremely splendid creature thought he would keep the bull along with his herds. And he sacrificed an alternative bull to Poseidon.

This angered Poseidon, so he transformed the bull wild, Poseidon also devised that Pasiphae (Minos’ wife) should fall deeply in love with the bull. Such was her infatuation for that bull, Pasiphae requested Daidalus who was an architect, to aid her. Daidalus created a wooden hollow cow then he sew together cow hides and blanketed the contraption with them, Pasiphae climbed within and waited within the meadow where the wild bull grazed.
The bull mounted the contraption with Pasiphae hidden inside as though it had been a real cow.

Pasiphae gave birth to the Minotaur, The Minotaur’s proper name is Asterion, “the starry one,” suggests he was associated with the constellation Taurus. He had the head of the bull, but was otherwise human. Simply following guidance through the oracle at Delphi, king Minos, kept the minotaur restricted and under guard in a labyrinth from which there was no escape soon after one went into, the labyrinth, it sealed off its unperceivable exit with convoluted flexions.
This was also designed and built by Daidalus
King Minos had a son, Androgeus, based on the myth; he would have been a healthy, athletic youth. He was sent to represent Crete during the Athenian games and was outstanding in winning many events
The King of Athens murdered Androgeus out of jealousy.

When Minos heard of the death of his son, he was angered and deployed the great Cretan navy.
The navy took Athens and rather than obliterating the entire metropolis, Minos decreed that every nine yrs Athens was obligated to deliver him 7 youthful men and 7 virgin girls.

King Minos threw them in to the labyrinth ın which they were sacrificed for the Minotaur.

Theseus, the Athenian King’s son, volunteered to become one of the seven sacrificial young adult men of this 3rd tribute for the Minotaur’s with the intention of killing the Minotaur and stopping the anguish of Athens.

Ariadne, daughter of King Minos, fell in love with Theseus and pleaded with Daidalus to tell her the best way out of the labyrinth. Following his guidance, Ariadne gave Theseus with a ball of twine, while he entered.
He fastened this inside the door and allow it to trail from behind. Theseus came upon the Minotaur in the farthest area of the labyrinth, killed him with jabs of his fist, immediately after made his exitagain by guiding himself down the thread.” Theseus fled from the vicious bellowing of that wild son of Pasiphae, the Minotaur along with the coiled habitation around the twisted labyrinth.” eradicating the Minotaur ended the anguish of Athens

Theseus said to his father if he prevailed in his mission of murdering the Minotaur, on his returning he would put up white sails rather than the black sails on his ship.
However in the excitement of his victory, Theseus did not remember to switch the sails on the ship from black to white.
The King of Athens looked for his sons return and saw the black sails. Thinking that his son’s plan failed and thinking that Theseus was deceased, the king of Athens threw him self off the top of the cliff into the sea and died.
